Bishop Daniel E. Thomas joins the Diocese of Cleveland in welcoming Bishop Nelson Perez

At noon in Rome (6 a.m. local time), The Holy See announced that Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Nelson J. Perez as the new Bishop for the Diocese of Cleveland. Bishop Daniel Thomas, who has served as Apostolic Administrator of Cleveland since December 28, 2016, will join Bishop Perez and officially welcome him at a news conference to be held this morning at 9 a.m. in the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist in Cleveland.

"In Bishop Nelson Perez, the Diocese of Cleveland is receiving a faithful, enthusiastic and joyful shepherd for Christ and His Church," Bishop Thomas remarked. "With his warm personality, Bishop Perez will endear himself to all who meet him. Bishop Perez will find in Cleveland a true spiritual home filled with dedicated and devoted people, a family of faith that I am grateful to have had the privilege to serve. I personally look forward to working with Bishop Perez in announcing the Gospel in Northern Ohio."

Bishop Thomas will remain the Apostolic Administrator of Cleveland until Bishop Perez' official Installation which will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at which time his responsibilities as Apostolic Administrator will conclude.

"I ask all the priests, deacons, consecrated religious and people of good will in both the Cleveland and Toledo Dioceses to pray for Bishop Perez, that his episcopal ministry will bear great spiritual fruit."
