On September 4, 2016, the Church Universal will celebrate a joyous occassion -- the canonization of St. Teresa of Calcutta.
VIDEO: Bishop Daniel E. Thomas shares his personal memories of Mother Teresa
Small in stature but a giant in our Catholic faith, Mother Teresa was entrusted with the mission of proclaiming God’s love for humanity, especially for the poorest of the poor. As the foundress of the Missionaries of Charity, Mother Teresa and her Sisters devoted their lives to responding to the physical and spiritual needs of the poor in the slums of Calcutta, India. Because of the rapid growth of the Missionaries of Charity, the eyes of the entire world turned toward Mother Teresa and the work she had started. In 1979, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and in accepting the award and the ensuing media attention she received, she did so for the glory of God and in the name of the poor.
As we celebrate the canonization of Mother Teresa, we pray for her intercession, that we may become ever more loving disciples of Jesus Christ and follow her example of promoting the dignity of every human life. Saint Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us.
