Evan Sekerak Ordained to the Transitional Diaconate at Rosary Cathedral
The Cathedral was filled with family, friends, clergy, religious and faithful from across the Diocese of Toledo on Saturday, May 16, as seminarian Evan M. Sekerak was ordained to the Order of the Diaconate at the 10 a.m. Mass at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral.
Bishop Daniel E. Thomas celebrated the ordination Mass alongside priests, deacons and seminarians from throughout the diocese and beyond. Parishioners from Evan’s home parish, St. Aloysius in Bowling Green, also attended the celebration.

In his homily, Bishop Thomas reflected on the witness of Philip in the Acts of the Apostles and encouraged the ne
wly ordained deacon to boldly proclaim Christ through both word and example. He also pointed to the witness of Francis of Assisi, recalling the familiar exhortation: “Preach the Gospel at all times, and when necessary, use words.”
“With Easter joy we celebrate the ordination of our seminarian, Evan M. Sekerak, to the Order of the Diaconate,” Bishop Thomas shared following the Mass. “Congratulations! May we all proclaim Jesus!”
As a transitional deacon, Deacon Evan will continue his formation for the priesthood while serving the Church through the ministries of charity, the Word and the liturgy.
