The Traveling Chalice: Encouraging Prayer for Vocations

The Office of Vocations has developed the Traveling Chalice Program to inspire prayer for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.

Through this initiative, two diocesan chalices travel from parish to parish each month. While the chalice is present, the parish community is invited to pray intentionally for vocations — both for those discerning within the Church and for the young people of their own parish.

Parish Highlights

St. Joan of Arc, Toledo — September 2025 (Chalice 1)

Throughout September, St. Joan of Arc Parish hosted one of the diocesan Traveling Chalices, which was displayed in the sanctuary near the altar. Parishioners were encouraged to pause and pray for an increase in diocesan priestly vocations. The chalice served as a powerful visual reminder of the need to support and pray for those discerning God’s call to serve the Church.

Our Lady of Hope, Attica — September 2025 (Chalice 2)

Our Lady of Hope Parish was blessed to host the Traveling Chalice for Vocations throughout the month of September. The chalice was placed in front of the ambo, where it remained a focal point for prayer. Before each Mass, parishioners prayed the Rosary for vocations, and a Hail Mary was offered at the close of every liturgy for the same intention. This visible commitment to prayer for vocations deepened the parish’s ongoing devotion to supporting future priests and religious.

Immaculate Conception, Toledo — October 2025 (Chalice 1)

During the month of October, Immaculate Conception Parish is dedicating special time to prayer for vocations. The parish is hosting a Prayer Service for Vocations on each of the four Mondays in October, featuring scripture, reflection, and song. Additionally, parishioners are gathering on Saturdays to pray the Rosary, with a focus on vocations during this Month of the Rosary. Through these opportunities for prayer and reflection, the parish community continues to foster a deeper awareness of God’s call among its members.

Immaculate Conception, Bellevue — October 2025 (Chalice 2)

Immaculate Conception Parish in Bellevue is honored to host one of the Traveling Chalices this month. The chalice is placed before the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, surrounded by prayer cards for vocations and for diocesan seminarians. Each day in October, following the St. Michael Prayer, the parish community prays a special prayer for priestly vocations together. Copies of the prayer are available in the bulletin and in the church. Parishioners are also encouraged to pray the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary throughout the month, asking that young men from the parish respond generously to the Lord’s call to the priesthood.
