Warmth for the Future: Most Blessed Sacrament Parish Upgrades Boiler Thanks to Living Christ Campaign

As a vibrant parish community in West Toledo, Most Blessed Sacrament has long been known for its Eucharistic focus, neighborhood outreach, and lively parish life. Now, thanks to the generous support of the Living Christ campaign, the parish is undergoing a behind-the-scenes transformation that promises a warmer, more sustainable future— literally.

In April, just after Easter, the parish broke ground on the installation of a brand-new boiler system for the church. The previous boiler, housed in the parish’s nearly centuryold elementary school building, had been failing for several years. With the school building scheduled for demolition this summer, it became essential not only to replace the aging heating system but also to relocate it entirely. “We really needed a new boiler,” Jeremy Demagall, Manager of Operations shared plainly. “It will keep the church warm for decades! And the new, more modern boiler should drastically cut down our heating bill since it’s much more efficient.”

The project, while not glamorous, is an essential investment in the future of parish life. And during the renovation process, workers uncovered a surprising link to the parish’s past: two vintage donation envelopes—one from 1959 and another from 1967—as well as an old parish bulletin and a prayer card from a 1961 funeral. These long-lost items were tucked behind radiator covers, reminding everyone just how deep the parish’s roots run.

“It was a great find,” Jeremy remarked. The envelopes are a reminder that generations of faithful parishioners have sustained Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, and now, our generous donors are doing the same for those who come after us. Originally, the parish had hoped to use Living Christ funds to install air conditioning in the church. But as the heating system deteriorated further, priorities shifted. Parishioners were invited to a town hall meeting to discuss and approve the change in plans. Their response? Unwavering support.

“The parishioners have been wonderful,” said Jeremy. “They raised over our goal amount and have been very loyal to their pledges. Even though we had to change the project, they understood the need and rallied behind it.” While the new boiler might not be visible during Sunday Mass, it plays a crucial role in the comfort and sustainability of the church—and its installation also paves the way for the safe demolition of the unused school building. Thanks to the Living Christ campaign and the generosity of its supporters, Most Blessed Sacrament Parish is moving forward with warmth, faith, and a renewed sense of mission.
