Unity as a Journey of the Heart

St. Charles Borromeo Parish Mission
St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church invites all to a powerful parish mission featuring Deacon Art Miller, a nationally known preacher of God’s Holy Scripture, renowned speaker, author, and host of widely followed podcasts.
Deacon Art has traveled throughout the United States—from New England to the Katrina‑ravaged Gulf Coast of Mississippi, from the Rocky Mountains of northern New Mexico to the south side of Chicago—preaching Christ’s call to Radical Love. This is the kind of self‑denying love that transforms hearts and lives and can only be lived through the grace and power offered to us through Jesus Christ.
A Faith Shaped by Real Life
Deacon Art’s message is deeply rooted in his own life journey. Growing up in Chicago, his childhood was profoundly altered at the age of ten. In August 1955, Emmett Till—a neighborhood friend and classmate of his older brother, Warren—was brutally murdered in Mississippi. Miller recalls how Emmett would often protect his smaller brother from bullies, an early example of courage, dignity, and love that left a lasting imprint on his life.
These experiences, along with the faith instilled by his parents, shaped Deacon Art’s understanding of unity, perseverance, and grace. He often reminds audiences that the journey toward God is not always smooth. There will be detours, bumps in the road, and even flat tires—but we are never without direction.
“On the journey toward God, we have GPS,” Deacon Miller says. “Scripture, faith, and community keep us moving forward.”
A Message of Joy and Hope
Deacon Art is known for saying that he does not live a “happy life,” but a life filled with joy.
“Happiness is situational,” he explains, “but joy is seeing the workings of God whenever we choose to do so.”
Through storytelling, Scripture, humor, and honesty, this parish mission invites all to grow in faith, unity, and hope—to be better tomorrow than we are today.
