Assumption Novena at Our Lady of Consolation

The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation and Conventual Franciscan Friars in Carey invite all to come celebrate the Novena to Our Lady of Consolation in preparation for the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary. In this year where we celebrate the Jubilee of Hope as well as the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Miraculous Statue of Our Lady, we pray that all who come to these holy grounds will be greatly blessed by our Lord and Blessed Mother. The homilist for this year's novena is Most Rev. John E. Stowe, OFM Conv., Bishop of Lexington, Kentucky. Bishop Stowe served as pastor and rector of Our Lady of Consolation from 2010-2015.

The Novena begins on Wednesday, August 6. Each day at 11:00am, Mass will be celebrated in the Upper Basilica. Each evening at 8:00pm (2:00pm on Sunday, August 10), we will pray the Novena Devotions consisting of:-Hymn to Our Lady-Rosary Procession-Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament -Scripture Reading and Homily by Most Rev. John E. Stowe-Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament -Individual Blessings with the Relic of the True Cross

The Assumption Novena culminates on August 14 at 9:00pm with the candlelight procession to the Shrine Park while praying the Rosary immediately followed the Vigil Mass for the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Most Rev. Daniel E. Thomas, Bishop of Toledo will be the principal celebrant with Most Rev. John E. Stowe being the homilist.

Assumption Vigil Choir forming at the Shrine

The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey invites area singers to join the 2025 Assumption Choir. This choir, along with a brass quintet, will lead the music for the Vigil Mass of the Assumption of Mary, in the Shrine Park on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 9:30pm. This unique experience gives singers, ranging from amateur to professional, the opportunity to sing a wide variety of music with a short-term commitment. Rehearsals will be held from 4:00–5:45pm in the Original Shrine Church (next to the Gift Shop) on Sundays: July 27, August 3, and August 10.
As the Catholic Church celebrates the Jubilee Year of Hope and the Shrine celebrates the 150th Anniversary of the Arrival of the Miraculous Statue of Our Lady of Consolation, this year's festivities are very special and expected to draw great attendance.

Children's Choir forming at the Shrine for Novena Devotions

The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey invites all area children in grades 1 through 8 to join a special choir which will sing during the Assumption Novena. This choir will lead the music at the Basilica & Shrine's Novena Devotions on Monday, August 11 at 8:00pm.
Rehearsals will be held from 12:30–1:30pm in the Original Shrine Church (next to the Gift Shop) on Sunday, August 3 and August 10. All singers are asked to attend at least one of the rehearsals.
