Year End Giving Acknowledgements
The Mission Advancement Office (MAO) is responsible for advancing the Diocesan mission through various funds like:
- Annual Catholic Appeal
- Living Christ
- Perpetuate the Gift
- Propagate the Faith
- Scholarship Granting Organization
To maintain legal compliance, the MOA sends out donation receipts in the following situations:
- The donor makes a single donation that is more than $250. All gifts of $250 or more legally require a receipt.
- The donation was $75 or more, and something was given in exchange for it. This stipulation can become a bit more complicated based on the value of the item or service given in exchange for the donation. For example, if a donor gives $100 and receives a keychain as a thank you, the keychain is likely not of high enough value to need a receipt.
- For each tax year, the MAO will provide acknowledgements to donors regardless of the above distinctions.
- These acknowledgements will be provided as a courtesy. According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), these statements should be provided to the donors by January 31st of the year following the receipt of the donation.
- While not legally required, we will be happy to email a donation receipt if a donor specifically requests one.
- The Mission Advancement Office does not handle donations to entities like Catholic Charities. Please contact the organization directly.
- For more information regarding cash donations, please refer to the IRS Publication 1771.
