Tax Information from Mission Advancement Office

Year End Giving Statements

The Mission Advancement Office (MAO) is responsible for advancing the Diocesan mission through various funds like the Annual Catholic Appeal and the Living Christ Campaign.

To maintain legal compliance, the MOA sends out donation receipts in the following situations:

  • The donor makes a single donation that is more than $250. All gifts of $250 or more legally require a receipt.
  • The donation was $75 or more, and something was given in exchange for it. This stipulation can become a bit more complicated based on the value of the item or service given in exchange for the donation. For example, if a donor gives $100 and receives a keychain as a thank you, the keychain is likely not of high enough value to need a receipt.
  • For the tax year 2024, the MAO will provide acknowledgements to donors regardless of the above distictions. This will be the final year acknowledgements will be provided as a courtesy.
  • According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), these statements should be provided to the donors by January 31st of the year following the receipt of the donation.
  • While not legally required, we will be happy to email a donation receipt if a donor specifically requests one.
  • For more information regarding cash donations, please refer to the IRS Publication 1771.
