Become a CYO Official!

Officials play a vital role in CYO by contributing in a positive way to the development of young people. CYO Officials must demonstrate good character, integrity and a lack of personal bias. CYO officials are expected to be knowledgeable of CYO and sport rules and they are to apply these rules in ways that uphold the development of the child and the fairness of the contest as primary values.

Requirement

  • PREFERED - Be a certified official by the OHSAA or by an organization approved by the CYO Athletic Administration
  • Register with the Diocese of Toledo CYO Athletic Office according to the administrative procedures determined by CYO
  • Complete "Concussion in Sports", an online course required to maintain compliance with the Ohio Return-to-Play law.

Youth Sports Official - Job Description

The CYO is hiring game officials for the 2023-2024 season for all sports. Officials play a vital role in CYO by contributing in a positive way to the development of young people. CYO Officials must demonstrate good character, integrity and a lack of personal bias. CYO officials are expected to be knowledgeable of CYO and sport rules and they are to apply these rules in ways that uphold the development of the child and the fairness of the contest as primary values.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure guidelines, rules and sportsmanship are enforced.
  • Officiate assigned games for leagues and tournament play.
  • Check all equipment and playing area for safety hazards ahead of scheduled contests.
  • Report any problems with captains, coaches, players, parents or spectators to site supervisor or CYO Director.
  • Ensure safety of staff, participants and spectators.
  • Arrive at scheduled time and work until all tasks are completed.
  • Speak with each coach or captain ahead of time to review ground rules, unusual circumstances or facility hazards.
  • Ensure all players are in proper uniform including required protective gear.
  • Remain unbiased and will avoid verbal contact with spectators.
  • Approach his/her position as a representative of CYO, display respect for participants, parents, spectators and other officials.


Qualifications:
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. Prefer Umpire/Referee/Official certification for the designated sport. Must have knowledge of the specific sport being officiated. Prefer some officiating experience.


Pay Rate / Pay Schedule

The below charts detail the pay rate for Unlicensed Officials (hourly) and Licensed Officials (per game).
