First Communion

"The Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life."136 "The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself” CCC 1324

In the Diocese of Toledo, the ordinary time for a child to receive their First Holy Communion is in 2nd grade. Holy Communion is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation into the Catholic Church, and it allows the child to receive the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ that is fully present in the Eucharist.

2nd graders should be enrolled in Sacramental preparation for the reception of their First Eucharist at their local parishes. They will be prepared to receive their First Reconciliation first and then to receive Holy Communion. Contact your parish office to allow your child to start preparing for this amazingly beautiful Sacrament!

“All the good that is in me is due to Holy Communion. I owe everything to it. I feel this holy fire has transformed me completely.” – St. Faustina
